There are many homes, particularly in rural areas, that use well water as their source rather than city or county municipal water supplies. A well flow test is meant to check the flow rate and pressure at which your well is pumping water into your home. The flow is typically expressed in gallons per minute, and the pressure is measured in pounds per square inch (psi). The test will let you know if there’s a problem with the well, pump, storage tank or any other associated equipment.
A properly functioning well should be able to pump about at least 3 gallons per minute into your home at a pressure of at least 30 psi (depending on how many levels are in the house). If you are planning on buying a home that depends on well water, you will definitely want a well flow inspection performed to ensure there’s sufficient water delivery to the house for sinks, showers, toilets, a washing machine and any other water uses you have. In the test, we will run your well water for a sufficient period of time to detect any anomalies in the flow rate or pressure. We’ll also visually inspect all visible parts of the wellhead, pump, wiring and any pipes.
